Hormisda to Celer and Patricius
Although, considering our position, we cannot remain silent on the cause of the Catholic faith, the most serene prince has greatly encouraged our efforts through his direct words, for which reason we have sent legates according to his will. And because such a cause should be aided by the assistance of the children of the Church, we greet you with appropriate respect and honor and ask that you support the arguments of those mentioned in the minds of the most serene prince for the sake of ecclesiastical peace. Indeed, no small reward will follow your esteemed efforts, as you will cause us to give thanks to Almighty God for your deeds.
In the year of our Lord 519.
