The Early Church and Peter's Primacy

Letter XL To Anastasia and Palmatius

Synopsis: Anastasia and Palmatius, Illustrious Senatorial Women, Who Stood Firmly for the Catholic Faith During the Persecution of Anastasius. The Same as in the Previous Letter

Hormisda to Anastasia and Palmatius

The effort of good will is always accompanied by the effect of divine prosperity. By the providence of our God, the opportunity of time has been given in which you should strive for the reward of your faith. Trusting first in heavenly mercy and then in the conscience of the most merciful prince, we have sent legates for the cause of the Catholic religion, through whom we greet your Excellency with due reverence; requesting that you do not withhold your labor and effort for the restoration of ecclesiastical harmony, so that when those whom the authority of the Apostolic See has condemned are repulsed and removed, the Christian people may return to the one, true communion, and you may have blessed Peter the Apostle as your helper in your actions for whose faith we strive.

In the year of our Lord 519.
