The Early Church and Peter's Primacy

Letter XLIII to the Same Legates

Synopsis: He wishes to be informed about their actions and recommends Stephen.

Hormisdas to our legates, as mentioned above.

It is necessary for us to be concerned about the state of the assigned action as well as the absence of your beloved selves, and for these matters, our concern does not allow us to miss any opportunity to write. Previously, through Magistrianus, who returned to the service of the patrician Symmachus, we sent letters to your charity, urging that you should not fail to inform us about all that has been done or is being done in the ecclesiastical cause, which you must do to relieve our concerns.

For it is our wish that Almighty God may grant the desired outcome to your efforts. Assist Stephen, the merchant through whom our messages will be delivered to you, with appropriate support wherever reason may demand, because you know that he has always been ours. Given on the same day (in the year of our Lord 519).
