The Early Church and Peter's Primacy

Letter LXVIII To His Legates

Synopsis: He desires to be informed of their well-being and actions.

Hormisdas to his legates,

We are so deeply concerned about your well-being and the actions you have taken that, although we have many opportunities, we never fail to urge you to keep us informed about what is happening around you through your letters. For, while we have sent messages that align with your desires through the illustrious man, our magnificent patrician son Agapitus, we have also believed it to be a consolation for your anxiety to send these present writings to you. Therefore, let us be reassured about your actions and safety, as well as regarding the delay, which we deeply regret, by using the appropriate opportunity of the bearer to communicate with us. Given on the fourth day before the Ides of July, in the consulship of the illustrious Rusticus (year of our Lord 520).
