To the most holy Pope Symmachus, from Ægidius, abbot, and Messianus, notary.
As the Apostolic See claims primacy over all bishops of the Churches spread throughout the world, and its authority excels through synodal decrees, so too must it steadfastly preserve the provisions it once granted, ensuring the Church of Arles enjoys its privileges. Through its bishop Cæsarius, it now presents its petition, requesting that your authority confirm the power it has held thus far. Let what the venerable See once commanded to be perpetually observed, and what was specially decreed by pragmatic sanctions, be confirmed by the precepts of your beatitude’s authority. We also ask that your holiness decree that the bishop of Aix be admonished to attend the synodal council when summoned by the metropolitan bishop of Arles or required for any ordination by divine religion, without fail, so that what the authority of the ancients sanctioned for past ages may remain inviolate under your leadership for present and future times.
Given by Ægidius, abbot, and Messianus, notary.
Note: This petition is designated as a libellus in Migne’s *Patrologia Latina* (PL 62).
