Hormisdas to Pompeius.
We confess that the spirit of our devotion is filled with the joy of concord, to such an extent that we believe no words are sufficient to express the purity of your faith. You will indeed be remembered by posterity with great honor, for it is certain that you have been diligent in striving for peace. You have earned merit before Divinity, to whom you have paid your devotion. You have indeed worked to fulfill the desires of all, but your own prayers have also been answered; and while preparing a reward for your soul, the whole world rejoices in the benefit that has been bestowed upon it.
Therefore, we greet you with due honor and urge and request that, with the same vigor with which you began to seek ecclesiastical peace, you ensure its completion; and wherever you see any traces of contention remaining, you should take care to eliminate them by all possible means. Assist in achieving the fullest tranquility of the Churches of God, persevere in the work that you have undertaken to offer to the Lord through the service of your faith. For you act in such a way that we demand more confidently from you the fulfillment of that work, as we congratulate you for having laid the votive foundations of the long-desired, sweetest union.
Given under the consulship as mentioned above (in the year of our Lord 519).
