Hormisdas to John, bishop, and Dioscorus, deacon.
We have learned that our brothers and fellow bishops, Thomas and Nicostratus, were not received in Constantinople as we had desired, and as they themselves had always hoped. It is reported not only that the places due to them have been taken away, but we also have come to know that they were suspended from communion. We believe that you understand how deeply this troubles our spirit and affects your fraternity and affection as well. Therefore, you should show as much diligence as the magnitude of this cause requires and provide effective action without delay.
Act in such a way that we, who received them, do not appear to be treated with contempt when they are improperly burdened with troubles contrary to the common desire. This is especially important since it is said that nothing has been arranged regarding their properties, which are reported to have been seized by our brother and fellow bishop John, and that our letters sent through them were not received. We urge you to act on all these matters promptly so that your charity may quickly be able to write back to us regarding the outcome of this matter.
Given under the consulship as mentioned above (in the year of our Lord 519).
