The Early Church and Peter's Primacy

Letter LV to Thomas and Nicostratus

Synopsis: He expresses his concern for their well-being and mentions that he has commended them to John and Dioscorus through letters.

Hormisdas to Thomas and Nicostratus, bishops.

Do not think that our mind is idle or indifferent regarding your situation, for we consider your distress no differently than our own. Indeed, through the communication of Mena, the notary of our Church, we have learned that your charity is still enduring the burdens of observation. Therefore, may Almighty God grant relief in these adversities. We have sent letters to our brother and fellow bishop John, and we have also instructed our beloved son, Dioscorus the deacon, through our letters to make known to our lord and son, the prince Justin, the necessity and cause of our affection, and to act earnestly so that our lord may be pleased to grant a fitting response to your desires.

Your fraternity should speak with Deacon Dioscorus, for it is necessary that he support your intention, either with regard to Catholic communion or with consideration of our exhortation.

Given under the consulship as mentioned above (in the year of our Lord 519).
