The Early Church and Peter's Primacy

Copy of a Letter from Justinian to Hormisdas

Synopsis: Congratulating on the Overthrow of Treachery and the Establishment of Peace

To my most holy lord Hormisdas, Chief Pontiff and Pope of the City of Rome, Justinian, Count, sends greetings.

The proclamation of your venerable sanctity and the rules, which continually supplicate Christ God for the peace of the Churches and the concord of the people, have now, through your most blessed priests, been brought to fulfillment by the favor of divine providence, without any discord among certain individuals prevailing.

Therefore, fortified by your sacred prayers and commands, we humbly ask that you deign to offer your customary intercessory prayers to the eternal King on behalf of our most holy Emperor, the supporter of all faith, for his republic, and also for us, the faithful guardians of your commands. In doing so, we earnestly ask that you favor us with your salvific letters (in the year of our Lord 519).
