The Early Church and Peter's Primacy

Letter LXI to Helias, Thomas, and Nicostratus

Synopsis: He informs them that he has written to the emperor and others on their behalf.

Hormisdas to Helias, Thomas, and Nicostratus, bishops.

It is unnecessary to express in words how greatly our minds are burdened by sharing in your suffering, as this is already known to those who understand mutual charity. May He who observes both our hearts and your labors, with His foreknowledge, turn our sorrow into joy through your prosperity. Indeed, know that we never cease, with just pleading and gentle intercession, to advocate on your behalf. We have sent letters concerning your specific matter to the most merciful prince, the most excellent Augusta, and to the illustrious and noble Justinian and Germanus, our sons.

We have entrusted these letters to the most noble Eulogius in such a manner that it is for you to decide first whether you wish to present them personally or have him deliver them to the prince and the other individuals mentioned above.
